Iggy’s: A Rhode Island Staple

When we think of Rhode Island, what do we think of? Del’s Lemonade? Maybe coffee milk? Clam cakes and chowder? We can’t forget doughboys! If you are looking to get a bite of some Rhode Island favorites, Iggy’s Doughboys is the place for you.

I find that a lot of clam shack places are closed in the fall and winter, and it can be hard to find clam cakes sometimes. But, luckily, Iggy’s is open year-round so you can get your favorite seafood even when there is snow on the ground. Because let’s admit, sometimes, in the middle of fall, you just get a craving for some fish and chips.

Iggy’s is home to all of your seafood favorites. Clam cakes, chowder, fish and chips, fried clam, lobster rolls just to name a few. If you’re not a big seafood person, that’s okay because there is also a variety of sandwiches, salads, and burgers to choose from at Iggy’s. of course, for dessert, you can’t forget about Iggy’s doughboys. You can get them with powdered sugar on time, or sugar and cinnamon and they make for the perfect dessert. They are super small, about the size of your palm, and the best to share.

Another great part about the Iggy’s in Narragansett is its amazing location. It is located right near Scarborough Beach. Spring and summer are right around the corner. Grab your food from Iggy’s set up a blanket on the beach and eat a yummy meal while watching the waves roll in at the beach. That sounds like a pretty great day to me.

Iggy’s has been around for quite a while, and the very first one was started in 1989. In 2000, the Narragansett location opened up and it has been growing ever since. The business was started by Gaetano Gravino and was later passed on to his son David, keeping Iggy’s a family business. Iggy’s has become a Rhode Island staple. In the warmer months especially, every time I go, there is a long line of people excited to get their clam cakes and chowder. Since its opening, it has been featured on numerous platforms including Rhode Island Monthly and on The Early Show Taste of America series on CBS.

Clam cakes and chowder are a dish that never gets old, and oftentimes a dish that can be hard to get right. After over 30 years in service, Iggy’s definitely knows how to make the perfect seafood dishes. So, as the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, head over to Iggy’s for the perfect meal on the beach.
