Best Beaches in Groton, CT

Looking to hit the beach in Groton, CT? We’ve got the best beaches for you right here!

Bluff Point State Park

Bluff Point State Park tops the list of the best beaches in Groton CT, and thanks to the ParkConneCT program, Saturday beachgoers may ride to and from their vehicles and the park on Route 11 of the Southeast Area Transit District (SEAT) for free. The one-mile spit forming the sandy beach has no lifeguards or restrooms, although you will find a few picnic tables scattered beneath shade trees.

The park has a boat launch ramp, making the sandy beach easier to reach from the water. The park also allows shellfishing and saltwater fishing, and both require licenses. Beach fishers may take striped bass, hickory shad, bluefish, false albacore, summer flounder, and blackfish 24 hours a day, as long as they are within the state length and total catch limits.

Eastern Point Beach

The accessible and family-friendly Eastern Point Beach is a local favorite! Beach amenities include lifeguards, basketball and volleyball courts, a snack bar, a children’s playground pod, and a beach house with restrooms and showers. The beach opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM daily, from mid-June through Labor Day.

Esker Point

Esker Point rounds out the list of the best beaches in Groton, CT for locals and visitors alike. The beach lies 15 minutes from downtown, on the west side of Esker Bay. The park features a man-made swimming beach on a 600-foot waterfront, free parking, a launch ramp for kayaks and canoes, 9 beach volleyball courts, restrooms with outdoor showers, and no lifeguards. Every summer, the beach hosts a series of Summer SoundWaves concerts every Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM between mid-June and the end of July.
