When Joe discovers an enormous mahogany board hidden away in an old woodworker’s shop, he believes that it will be the catalyst for the fulfillment of his destiny. Its mysterious owner, Giordano, is happy to sell it to him. But then Joe discovers that the board holds dark secrets; they have high costs, and they upend his world.

Ham Martin, himself a woodcarver by profession, writes about real, complicated, flawed humans who discover in themselves courage, kindness, and love. Ham is the author of the critically praised Talk Radio, the debut of a Maine trilogy.Ham has been a staffer in the U.S. House of Representatives, a lifeguard in Tokyo and Singapore, galley man on an oil tanker, 1st Selectman of his town, sign maker and cabinetmaker.
