Best Seafood in Providence, RI

Dune Brother’s is the product of two long-time friends who share the same passion for their native New England’s food and culture. Inspired by the fish shacks they would visit as children on the beaches of Cape Cod and Southern RI, owners Jason and Nicholas decided to create a series of pop-up dinners and this concept quickly evolved into the unassuming yet exceptional Dune Brothers you can find today on Dyer Street. They strive to offer guests a chef-driven, dock-to-dish approach with ingredients sustainably sourced from New England fishermen and farmers. We can’t get enough of the classic seafood fare – start with some clam cakes and chowder, but save room for the Cape Shark Sandwich.

Hemenways, an icon in the Rhode Island food scene and a go-to destination for fresh, top-of-catch seafood, has been serving both locals and visitors to the capital city for decades. Their chef delights in creating dishes that utilize the freshest selections from New England’s fishmongers and purveyors. At the heart of the restaurant is their heralded Raw Bar, where guests indulge in our signature Shellfish Platter while enjoying views of the Providence skyline. There are no wrong choices to make here, but we love starting with their hot seafood platter (which includes stuffies, calamari, scallops & bacon), and then diving into lobster ravioli.

Capriccio, a Providence staple, has been helping to set the standard for sophisticated, white-linen dining downtown since 1977. Indulge in their caviar and raw bar before selecting something classic yet unique from their entrees – we recommend the Scampi alla Gino-Flambé, which is prepared right at your table, or Lobster Cardinale.

Mill’s Tavern is a place that is both upscale and friendly, located in downtown Providence – the perfect setting for a romantic evening, a special celebration, or a business dinner. Their impressive menu combines local and seasonal ingredients in innovative and exciting ways, all in an open kitchen alight with the glow of a wood-burning oven. The menu changes with the seasons – as of writing, we highly recommend starting with the King Crab Cocktail and then ordering the Atlantic Swordfish Medallions.

Providence Oyster Bar

Located on Atwells Ave, in the heart of Providence’s historical Federal Hill, Providence Oyster Bar strives to offer Rhode Islanders and visitors a distinguished and memorable seafood dining experience, providing residents and visitors with the freshest, boldest flavors around. Choose from a variety of fresh oysters and clams at their signature raw bar (including a buck-a-shuck appy-hour special), or savor one of their seafood-inspired entrees such as Cod Bianco or Cioppino, a fisherman’s stew.

There are plentiful sushi options in Providence, thankfully, and perhaps a round-up of the best sushi in the city should be my next task – but for now, I have to recommend Sakura, which offers delicious dining and takeout options. They’re well known for their modern interpretation of classic dishes, for their BYOB option, and for their tatami seating, which allows guests to enjoy their meals while sitting on cushions on the floor.
