Best Beaches in Middletown, RI

When searching for the best beaches to hang out with your family and friends during weekends and holidays, Middletown, RI has plenty of options. While the state has a coastline of about 40 miles, it offers everything that any outdoor enthusiast would love, including summer food staples (frozen lemonade, clam cakes) and entertainment for kids. Here are a few options you may want to consider.

Gooseberry Beach

The Gooseberry beach is located one mile from the Newport mansions and the historic Bellevue Avenue. The beach is set back in a cove, protected by several large boulders (50 meters at low tide and 75 meters at high tide) and spit of land. You’ll hardly see big waves here, making it a perfect spot for school aged kids and families.

Easton’s Beach

This beach is situated on Memorial Boulevard and occupies 0.75 miles stretch of sand. Easton beach has even designated different swimming sections for families with young children that are regularly patrolled by lifeguards. You can even sit back and enjoy the cool ocean breeze by reserving a beach cabana or rent boogie boards from the beach’s concession.

Peabody Beach

The Peabody beach is a family-run beach that has been in operation for over 100 years. It is situated at the north end of Sachuest Cove and is close to a town-owned Third Beach. This beach attracts a lot of families and young children because it doesn’t receive big waves like most surrounding beaches.

Third Beach

This beach is situated close to the bank of Sakonnet River and receives less waves, making it a perfect spot for windsurfers, kitesurfing, and family. The beach offers different amenities including shade structures, picnic tables, boat ramp, and bike ramp. The beach charges a parking fee of between $10 to $20 depending on the day of the week. Remember that if your purchase a pass for this beach, it can still be used on Middletown’s Second Beach.
